Shawn had been an active and dedicated member of BHPC since August 2012, driving two and a half hours to attend our club meetings, field trips and workshops. He was a unique individual with a zest for life; he was full of enthusiasm with a bright, friendly smile. Our hearts and prayers go out to Shawn and his family during this time of mourning and healing.

The following quote was taken from Shawn’s obituary:

“Shawn was active in 4-H growing up. He won numerous awards for his tractor driving and photography skills at the Carter County Fair. His love of tractors and photography continued to grow throughout his life. Shawn had truly found his niche as a scenic photographer. He won a national award for his photo titled “Looking Back” from the American Sheep Industry in 2012 and was one of the featured artists for the 2013 Alzada Poetry and Art Show. He was a member of the Black Hills Photography Club and has had several of his prints hanging in various locations throughout the Black Hills. His photographs of the Aurora Borealis and Lightning Strikes were incredible.”

Those of us fortunate enough to attend Shawn’s service in Belle Fourche witnessed an incredibly personal, moving and uplifting experience of stories and tributes led by Shawn’s former Teacher turned Minister, who had known Shawn throughout his life. The attendance was overwhelming and the service was beautifully done.

Shawn will forever be a part of the Black Hills Photography Club. We will miss him dearly, but also know he will be with us in spirit in all of our activities.
