Just a friendly reminder that Ted would like each member to submit 2 images a month. These images over the course of the next 12 months will go towards the end of year slide show. Ted has put together great end of year slide shows the past few years and has agreed to continue the tradition. The least we can do as a thanks for his service is see that he has images to use.
Just email your two images a month to Ted at
A message from Ted
Just reminding folks that I challenged every member to submit 2 photos per month to me for the 2014 Christmas Members Slide Program. FYI the President has set the example and submitted 2 for January. Lets keep up with him!!!!!
We lost a dear friend and photographer on December 27, 2013. Below is the article from our last newsletter.
April 6, 1967 – December 27, 2013
Shawn had been an active and dedicated member of BHPC since August 2012, driving two and a half hours to attend our club meetings, field trips and workshops. He was a unique individual with a zest for life; he was full of enthusiasm with a bright, friendly smile. Our hearts and prayers go out to Shawn and his family during this time of mourning and healing.
The following quote was taken from Shawn’s obituary:
“Shawn was active in 4-H growing up. He won numerous awards for his tractor driving and photography skills at the Carter County Fair. His love of tractors and photography continued to grow throughout his life. Shawn had truly found his niche as a scenic photographer. He won a national award for his photo titled “Looking Back” from the American Sheep Industry in 2012 and was one of the featured artists for the 2013 Alzada Poetry and Art Show. He was a member of the Black Hills Photography Club and has had several of his prints hanging in various locations throughout the Black Hills. His photographs of the Aurora Borealis and Lightning Strikes were incredible.”
Those of us fortunate enough to attend Shawn’s service in Belle Fourche witnessed an incredibly personal, moving and uplifting experience of stories and tributes led by Shawn’s former Teacher turned Minister, who had known Shawn throughout his life. The attendance was overwhelming and the service was beautifully done.
Shawn will forever be a part of the Black Hills Photography Club. We will miss him dearly, but also know he will be with us in spirit in all of our activities.
Hard to believe another year has about come and gone. This is also the time when the Black Hills Photography Club holds its annual end of year Potluck and Slideshow. It is a great time with many friends, Great food, and amazing photography. The Potluck this year will be on December 9th starting at 6pm. Here are location, date and time details. Please be sure to come and bring a guest.
We do ask just two things from all that plan on attending.
1. Be sure to sign up to bring something. click HERE to open the spreadsheet showing what is needed and what others are bringing. Just put your name in a slot, the document saves automatically. You can always close the window and reopen it just to be sure it did.
2. We need images to share in our slide show. So pick 5 of your favorite images from this past year (or years past) and resize to club competition dimensions – The longest side must be no more than 1024 pixels. The file size must be no more than 500 KB. Please have these emailed to Ted before Nov 26th (sorry kinda late)
Hope to see many of you there, its a great time with some great people.
May/June Newsletter is here!
There are some great articles and stories by our members this issue, and its full of amazing pictures. A big thanks to Chasity and Ted our newsletter editors for the great job they are doing with the newsletter. As our editors continue to work with different layouts and formats to bring us the best newsletter possible we sure can’t complain about all the great content they are providing.
Even with great editors the newsletter wouldn’t be possible with out submissions from the club members. Please be sure to share any of your photography adventures (in words and pictures) with our editors so they can be sure to include in future publications.
Also if you have any photography equipment you might be interested in selling remember that we have a spot for that in the newsletter as well.
